Originally built for the outdoor adventurers and alpinists, this Chateau’s story began at the end of the 19th Century. It’s located in Banff National Park and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Fairmont Chateau is in the town of Lake Louise and is surrounded by mountain peaks, the Victoria Glacier and the famous emerald lake.

  • In 1890 the Fairmont Chateau was one long cabin built on the shore of the lake
  • Emerald Lake was renamed after Princess Louise Carolina Alberta, Queen Victoria’s fourth daughter
  • Fairmont Chateau was a resort just open in the summer until 1970, when it opened for the first time for skiiers
